What is Geofencing?
Geofencing is a location-based digital marketing tool that lets marketers send messages to smartphone users who have entered a defined geographic area.
Standard geofencing – targeting a specific location & advertising to the people who enter it for up to 30 days.
Addressable (household) geofencing – same as above but to specific addresses, used a lot by politicians.
When layered with demographics geofencing allows you to advertise directly to your target demographic when they’re most likely to be ready to purchase.
What others are saying:
“There is no doubt that hyper-targeted, location-based marketing is going to be the next big thing in digital marketing. Now is the time to get started.” – Yahoo.
“Geofencing technology is compatible with 92% of US smartphones.” – webfx.com
“Companies using geofencing report an average of 202% ROI on their targeting investment and a 47% lower cost-per-action (CPA) on average.” – salesforce.com
What we do:
- Build a digital perimeter or “Geofence”.
- Tag smartphones owned by people who match your target demographic when they enter the geofenced area.
- Serve mobile ads – When devices that are tagged access websites or applications that offer advertising, we serve your ad in real-time.
- Monitor, Measure & Optimize – We split test & regularly monitor all aspects of your campaign – targets, ads, coupons, landing pages, etc. This allows us to consistently & constantly improve on your results.
- Report & Give Insights – We provide comprehensive, data driven monthly reports as well as insights in plain English so you can more easily understand exactly what we did last month, how successful it was, & what we plan to change to improve your results for the following month.

Case Studies
Each of the following companies use the same tools offered by Big Draw Marketing.
Taco Bell – By creating well-defined geofences in areas near Taco Bell locations, the team improved the company’s annual profits by six percent. With $10 billion in annual sales that means the campaign generated close to $600 million in additional profits.
American Eagle – focused on targeting mall locations, which often house American Eagle stores AE created ads with special offers, as well as incentives for trying on clothes. The company increased in-store sales three times over, generating significant new revenue for the business.
Dunkin’ Donuts – The coffee giant combines geo-conquesting with behavioral data to target Starbucks customers and to convert them with a mobile coupon campaign, which recorded an impressive redemption rate of 3.6%.
North Face – The outdoor apparel company discovered that weather-related alerts via geofencing could push their company’s sales forward. In fact, in-store visits increased by almost 80% from shoppers that received its ads. Even better, 65% of those customers bought a product.
Whole Foods – With the goal of improving post-click conversion rates for its mobile ads while wooing potential customers away from it competitors the supermarket chain placed geofences around a number of Whole Foods store locations and targeted ads and special offers to mobile users who passed by. Whole Foods also employed geo-conquesting tools (by placing geofences near competitors’ stores) to target ads at shoppers near competing grocery stores, thus incentivizing them to travel a bit further in exchange for better deals at Whole Foods. The campaign yielded Whole Foods a 4.69% post-click conversion rate – more than three times the national average of 1.43%.
